Overhead Press 1RM Calculator

How do you estimate your overhead press 1RM?

Enter the weight you pressed overhead and the number of strict reps you completed. The calculator estimates your one-rep max with five common equations and shows their average.

Calculated Estimated Max
261 lbs

Example: 115 lbs for 5 reps on the overhead press

The five equations estimate a overhead press 1RM of 134 lbs (Epley), 129 lbs (Brzycki), 131 lbs (Lander), 135 lbs (Lombardi) and 137 lbs (Mayhew). Their average is 133 lbs.

Choosing a set for your overhead press estimate

  • Count only reps that follow the same standard (for example strict press with no leg drive), and keep the set at about 10 reps or fewer.
  • If you also train push press, test it separately so the numbers are not mixed.
  • Stop the set when your reps stop meeting the standard.

Strict and push-press reps are different lifts. Keep them separate so your estimates stay comparable.
